Mandate / Objectives
Since it began in 1993, Kegedonce Press has been committed to the development, promotion, and publication of the work of Indigenous writers nationally and internationally.
We strive to foster the creative cultural expression of Indigenous Peoples through the publication of beautifully crafted books which involve Indigenous Peoples in all levels of production and by supporting activities which promote Indigenous literary development and the development of Indigenous publishing.
Kegedonce Press is a Native owned and operated company based at Neyaashiinigmiing, on the traditional territory of the Chippewas of Nawash First Nation. We are committed to our guiding vision of publishing and promoting works of the Indigenous writers and supporting the enterprise of Indigenous artists, graphic illustrators, designers, editors, printers and others in related fields.
Kegedonce Press is one of only three established Aboriginal publishers in Canada, and one of only two that publishes Aboriginal writers as general practice (the other specializes in Métis writing). We are the only Aboriginal publishing company in Ontario, the only Aboriginal publisher committed to publishing poetry, and the only one with a commitment and experience in developing international markets.
Kegedonce Press, a Native owned and operated publishing company based at Neyaashiinigmiing, seeks manuscripts for consideration for inclusion in our future publishing program. We are looking for fiction, drama, creative non-fiction, graphic novels, and children's books by Indigenous writers from Canada. Writers whose work has never been published are strongly encouraged to submit their work to literary journals and anthologies before seeking publication of a full manuscript.
What We Publish:
- Literary fiction, which includes novels, poetry and anthologies;
- Non-fiction in social history and policy as it relates to Aboriginal issues;
- Aboriginal critical literary pieces;
- Non-fiction, creative and humour; and
- Children’s and young adult titles.
All submissions must be accompanied by a cover letter and bio. Your bio must include your Nation affiliation and full contact information such as address, phone number and e-mail address (if available). If this information is not included with your submission, your manuscript will not be reviewed. If you have any published works, please list the publication dates and publisher
We DO NOT accept simultaneous submissions.
