The beaver is busy…

This delightful children’s picture book tells the story of amik, the beaver, who works on his dam throughout the day while nature and the activities of other animals carry on around him. At the end of a long day, amik returns to his den to be with his family. Along with its beautiful cut-paper illustrations, Amik offers the chance for children to learn words and phrases in the Ojibwe language, as the text appears in both English and Anishinaabemowin. A fun, colourful and engaging book for children ages three through six.

Amik won the 2022 bronze medal IPPY Award for Best Regional Fiction, Canada East; it was longlisted for the 2022 First Nation Communities Read Award; and it was shortlisted for the 2022 Indigenous Voices Award for Published Work in an Indigenous Language!

Now you can see and hear Amik being read in Anishinaabemowin! Follow along with the video to start learning, or to just appreciate the traditional language of the Ojibwe, Odawa, and Algonquin peoples. A short excerpt of the video can be viewed here.

If you have already bought a copy of Amik, go to the contact form here on the Kegedonce Press website and send us the last Anishinaabemowin word of the story and we will send the link to the full video!
